Socialites

🎬 Situation: Yas is a talker. He is often flowing with ideas. However, this can sometimes lead him to defocus and go offtopic during conversations and can also be a risk for time management for his projects. Meetings can become lengthy and miss the main objective.

⭐ Adapting the 1:1: Carla wants to help Yas focus the conversation on one or two topics. She also added a “Parking lot” category to acknowledge the topics raised by Yas which should be solved later. This helps her structure the meeting, reach the objective, and respect Yas ideas’. She renames the generic “Topics to discuss” to “Questions & comments” to steer Yas to asking specific questions.

Reserved team members

🎬 Situation: Sani always delivers her work on time, with excellent quality. She is an expert in her field and her skills can be valuable to the others in the team. She has a preference to individual work. During meetings, Sani rarely takes the initiative to speak until being asked.

⭐ Adapting the 1:1: Carla wants to help Sani express herself more freely. She removes the rather freestyle “How do you feel” rating questions and transforms this into a selection field to understand more about Sani’s mood during the meeting. Carla also encourages Sani to think about specific blockers which would not be naturally expressed during the day-to-day operations.

Juniors

🎬 Situation: Alice just joined the company after graduating from her Bachelor’s degree. She is young, dynamic, and a great fan of Instagram. She knows she has a lot to learn about the business and her specific job, and would like to have specific guidance.

⭐ Adapting the 1:1: Carla wants to make the check-in fun and useful. She wants to help Alice understand her priorities with a focus on learning. Carla adds a “Story” area where Anna can express how her week is going with a collection of 3 emojis (or another visual). During the meeting they discuss the next priorities and agree on what Anna should focus on for her learning plan + share resources that could be useful.

Simple 1:1 template

🎬 Situation: Jason has been on the job for over a year and is fully autonomous. The relationship with his manager, Carla, is strong, based on trust and transparency. He is a skilled communicator and well aware of his goals.

⭐ Adapting the 1:1: Carla uses the Simple 1:1 template with Jason to stay efficient, without requiring long preparation before the meeting. They use their 1:1 check-ins to talk about any topic which is relevant for Jason at the time and brainstorm on several ideas that come up during the discussion.
